Animal shelter (Charity)

Client: Sociedad Protectora de Animales y Plantas de Lugo
Type of project: Charity contribution

I’m a lifelong animal lover. I have always wanted to contribute to my hometown animal shelter. I started working on a proposal to redesign their current site as it doesn’t offer the best user experience. When someone decides to adopt a pet, it is crucial that the experience is as simple and pleasant as possible. This will increase the chances of animals being adopted. This is a WIP project.

Note: This project’s research, presentations and content have been done in the country’s language, Spanish.

Previous design

I redesigned a responsive website. The new site makes it easier to go through the adoption process, browse pets, donate, and other essential adoption activities.

For this project I worked on:

  • Competitive analysis

  • Usability testing of a mix of people who adopted pets previously and other volunteers

  • Created user journey maps

  • Personas

  • Wireframes and high fidelity prototype

Challenges

As this is a voluntary project done at no cost to the shelter, I have user-tested the current page with friends and volunteers. I also used SurveyMonkey to create a free survey in order to collect enough data. This is a non-profit organisation that accepts much-needed donations and volunteer work, so I decided to use free resources. I got valuable insights from the testing and survey that has allowed me to start working on improving the site.
